LEGO Doctor Who

These are some of my designs I shared of potential Doctors and Monsters in LEGO form, throughout November (on Tumblr), leading up to the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who.

(Background images: NASA. Doctor Who & LEGO are copyright their respective owners and these designs are in no way affiliated with them.)

Updated Gallery!

Recently I've updated the illustration & design gallery page on my website, christopherjameswright.co.uk/gallery.html

It features some brand new pieces, like these ink drawings in shapes, as well as some revamped older work, like the illustrated app tutorial for The Smile Epidemic, that you might not have seen.

March Update

I have started using Tumblr and you can follow me there for even more frequent updates, including my Hourly (Animated) Comic Day GIFs and life-drawing too - iamchriswright.tumblr.com

I've also been going back to some old projects and finished off a new Batvent animation featuring Ra's Al Ghul, a villain seen in both the Batman Begins film and the Arkham City video game, here he uses his convenient Lazarus Pit for a revitalising bath after an unfortunate lightning strike.

All Time Low - "For Baltimore"

I worked with Tinman on these videos for All Time Low, all based on Brett Jubinville's lovely artwork.

On the "For Baltimore" video (above) I animated all of the dancing crowd as well as several characters and creatures throughout the yearbook.

For the lyric videos (below) I animated the majority of the album artwork in Flash (except for the band playing/mushroom cloud), it was then composited in AFX by Brett for multiple songs (featured on their YouTube page).

Sports!

Hope you all enjoyed the Olympics and
are feeling super sporty now too!

Today as I was going through some old work I found a birthday animation which I always enjoyed and by adding an extra transition between the kayak & windsurfer I managed to turn it into a looping gif.

Doggy Paddle

Lucy the Westie

Lucy is my girlfriend's West Highland Terrier who I have got to know over the past year or so and after doing a bunch of Octopussy drawings I got a bit bored of counting the eight legs each time and threw in some dogs which led to the illustrated debut of Lucy!

Here's a tiled version of the first selection of Lucy drawings for use as a wallpaper,
I already have a bunch more done so look out for those in the future!

Stone Giant

A sketch of a creature partially inspired by Shadow of the Colossus - the stepped platform on his back would appear as part of the landscape if he laid down for a century long sleep, blending into the landscape.

Familiar & New.

Here's a selection of characters I had drawn a while back and never got round to putting online.
You may notice a few from other things (Firefly/Portal) whereas the rest are original characters.

Liptacular!

A selection of lips that I've been using for a recent project, as I hadn't been collecting them together initially I ended up with a few almost-duplicates, but thought it was a fun image and reminded me of the drawers of mouth shapes you see Aardman using for their films & tv shows.

And, since you've been patient with me, here's a preview of two more Batvent characters,
Ra's Al Ghul and Scarface the ventriloquist dummy.

Flight of the Conchords

Here are a few little drawings I did of the FOTC guys the other night while watching a couple of episodes, turns out I'd not seen them all (or my memory had dropped a few to make room for other things) but I couldn't forget their fantastic Daft Punk homage robot costumes!

Canada's Technology Triangle

I animated this information film about Canada's Technology Triangle and the Waterloo Region last year, all of it was hand drawn by me in Flash except for the factoid circles which were added after in After Effects.

Hourly Comic Day

Today was Hourly Comic Day and I tried to do something for each hour of the day, also I attempted to have a more interesting time of it than sitting at the computer the whole day.

Wild Lomography

Like Lomography? Like animals?
You'll love their new range of animal print cameras
and my animation to tie in with them all!

This was projected all night at the Lomography Toronto Store
on January 26th as part of their launch party for the new range of cameras.

Toast

Toast is this guy, and yes he's not wearing any pants.
If you want to find out more about him and a multitude of his other strange office co-workers then check out Jamie Smart's fantastic Corporate Skull comic at http://www.corporateskull.com/ - but be warned it's not one for kids, (this particular image was from Issue 4-5).

Made because… who doesn't want to give animating 'willy-wobble' a go?

Batvent - Day 15

Here's a gift for you all since you've been so patient while I sauntered off and went skiing.

I also moved to Toronto at the start of the month and have started to finish off the remaining days of Batvent, I've got a few ideas for what to do with them all once I'm finished, maybe this year I'll come up with an advent idea before December!

Batvent (paused)

Sadly I will not be able to continue on with Batvent for this year (at least until after the 28th December) as I have returned to the UK and tomorrow leave for France to go skiing for a week, I have animated only one more Batvent piece in advance but I'll save that for now, the only reason for not getting ahead of myself is that they take a surprising amount of time, not just to animate but to design as well (I'm not used to lineless art as used here apart from my Twenty Five for 25 project in February this year).

I hope that you've enjoyed what you've seen here and if you follow me on Twitter then you'll know I'd love for you to submit your own Batvent images, animated or not, of Batman characters enjoying some time in a winter scene, if you want to send them to me I'll post them up when I'm back, (have a look on my website if you don't already know my email.)

Thanks + Merry Christmas!
